Jackie's comment was mild compared to what was done to them by their own families.
The teenagers were thrown under the bus by her own mother, and the story put out that they had "always planned to marry" was identifiable garbage as his [quickly pulled] MySpace page loudly proclaimed that he didn't want to get married and didn't want kids. They (and their "engagement") were mere props, used to paint the picture of a loving and accepting family in the ruthless quest for advancement by a second-, no third-rate neophyte politician of dubious intelligence, but substantial ego.
Anyone who believed that a wedding was really going to take place (shotgun or not) should be putting their money into buying the bridge to nowhere.

Does it make you feel important, superior, and special to pick on a couple of teenagers?
Bully.
